Botox for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

With the weather starting to warm up in Sydney (finally), those struggling with excessive sweating in their underarms may not be as excited. Botox offers a quick and easy way to manage hyperhidrosis, leaving you to enjoy most of the season without having to worry about excess sweat.

Botox is best known for treating wrinkles, but it has the ability block the nerves that activate your sweat glands. This significantly reduces the amount of sweat you produce, leaving you to feel stress free without sweat patches on your clothes.

A result is noticeable within 3-5 days, unfortunately they do not last forever so to maintain your results a follow up appointment is advised. Full results are seen at two weeks’ time and can last 3-4 months.

Hyperhidrosis

The biggest indicator of hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating. It can affect the hands, feet, underarms and face.

There are two types primary and secondary.

Primary hyperhidrosis is caused by faulty nerve signals triggering sweat glands to become overactive. There is no medical cause for this type. It affects the palms, soles, underarms and the face.

Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying medical condition or by taking certain medications.

How does it work?

Anti-wrinkle injections stop the release of a neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which signals your glands to produce sweat. By treating your underarms, the amount of sweat being produced is significantly less.

The procedure

The procedure requires injections into the armpit, the entire process takes about 10 minutes and is well tolerated, feeling like a small pinch.
