Breast augmentation is surgery to change the shape, volume and proportion of breast by placing implants under the breast tissue or chest muscle.

Breast implants come in different shapes, textures and projections. Dr David Ong takes a highly customised approach to tailoring a surgical plan. The consultation includes a thorough medical history and anatomical assessment, discussion on implant brand and shape selection (round or teardrop) to plane of implant placement (subglandular, submuscular or dual plane).

Prior to your consultation appointment you will be required to obtain a referral letter from your GP.

FAQ’S

  • The first step is to book a consult, from here you will meet Dr David Ong and discuss your goals and prepare a customised plan tailored to your needs. The consult includes discussion on implant brand, shape and selection (round or tear drop) to plane of implant placement (sub glandular, sub muscular, or dual plane).

Following a second consultation and a cooling off period, a day for surgery can be organised when you are ready to proceed.

On the day of surgery, you will have a general anaesthetic. An incision is then made in the fold under the breast (inframammary incision), and the implant is inserted. The incisions are closed, with sutures and then the incisions are dressed.

  • This procedure is done under a general anaesthetic at a day hospital. The procedure itself takes approximately 60-90 minutes.

  • Immediately after surgery your incisions will have protective dressings over them and the breasts will be placed in a supportive bra in place to minimise swelling and provide comfort to your breasts as they heal.

You will be discharged from hospital with some important post-operative instructions, as well as pain relief. It is important you have a care person at home with you for the first night.

  • Most people are able to return to work after one week. It takes approximately 4 – 6 weeks for full recovery post breast augmentation.

During this time, refrain from physical activity that involves lifting heavy objects.

Postoperative swelling can take up to 6 months to completely subside, breast will start to get softer and more natural looking over this time.
